Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Leaves Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento County deputies are looking into a gun violence incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were clearing an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at the park at approximately half past six in the evening after getting calls of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. After that, a second call came in regarding a possible fight taking place at Howe Park.

Aerial units flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, authorities discovered that a crowd of several hundred had come together at the location without any permit or approval.

When the Shots Rang Out

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems ordering the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Around 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

The Shooting Victims

Ultimately, four victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The four individuals — consisting of one woman and three men each apparently in their early to late twenties — were brought to nearby hospitals. Hospital staff stated that two had critical injury classifications, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. As of last report, each of the four victims was stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and aided in treating the injured prior to hospital transport.

Crime Scene Evidence

Most of the gunfire appears to have unfolded near Cottage Way next to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators discovered additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet damage were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing surrounding the Home Depot. These findings pointed to that a shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. The store itself was secured under a brief lockdown as a precaution. Crime scene technicians and detectives continued working through the early morning hours.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Intelligence received via scanner audio confirmed that a Kia vehicle was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
